How to Apply

Program Prerequisites

Each major has prerequisite courses that must be completed before a student may be admitted to the major. A minimum grade of B- is required in the prerequisite courses for the Cognitive Science major. A minimum grade of C (not C-) is required in the prerequisite course(s) for all other Social Science IDP majors.

Prerequisite Courses:

  • Cognitive Science: PSY 342
  • Environmental Studies/BA: or BS: SSC 118
  • Environmental Studies Minor: SSC 118
  • Legal Studies: PSC 101 and HIS 161 or 162
  • International Studies: PSC 102 and UGC 112
  • Health and Human Services: PSY 101 and SSC 103
  • Urban & Public Policy: PSC 101 and SOC 101

Program Requirements

Any student who meets one of the following sets of criteria may apply to the major.

A.

  1. Do you have a UB GPA of 2.00 or higher?
  2. Have you completed the pre-requisite course(s) with the required minimum grade(s)?

If you answered yes to both questions, you may be admitted to the major.

B.

  1. Do you have a UB GPA or overall GPA (UB and transfer averaged together) of 2.00 or higher?
  2. Have you completed 60 or more credit hours?

If you answered yes to both questions, you may be provisionally admitted to the major.

C.

  1. Do you have a minimum overall GPA (UB and transfer averaged together) of 2.00 or higher?
  2. Have you completed 60 or more credit hours?
  3. Have you completed the pre-requisite course(s) with the required minimum grade(s)?

If you answered yes to all three questions, you may be provisionally admitted to the major.

D.  Have you previously been admitted provisionally and dismissed from any Interdisciplinary Degree Program major? If yes, then you must wait to re-apply until all criteria in #1 above have been met.

Applying to the Environmental Studies minor

Have you completed the pre-requisite course, SSC 118, with a grade of C or better?

If you answered yes, you may be admitted to the minor.

Applying

Once you have completed the requirements for application to the program you must fill out an application form and bring it, along with a .pdf version of your Academic Advising Report to 203 Clemens Hall.
